Why not just rinse the mask under water?

  • It requires training.
  • Valuable breathing air is lost in the process of forcing water out of the mask.
  • Many divers require both hands for removing their mask, thereby limiting use of one hand.
  • Vision is completely obscured during the rinse, an undesirable state in many situations.
  • In contaminated waters it is impossible to avoid facial contact with the contaminants.
  • In cold waters significant loss of body heat occurs through facial contact with the water.

Why not just use defog/antifog solutions?

  • They tend to wash-off during a dive. Even the best wash-off in 9 rinse cycles.
  • They cannot be re-applied during a dive, under water, if/when fog returns.
  • The chemicals in the solutions are a source of concern for many health conscious users.
  • Some are even eye irritants.
  • The supply in a bottle eventually runs out and must be re-purchased.

Wide-i has none of these disadvantages.

Does it fall off?

No, it does not fall off. The strength of the magnets is designed to assure that they stay on the mask at all times, even upon a clumsy or splashy entrance into the water.

What do Wide-i users say?

"... never dive without it again!"

One trick of the Trade:

Optionally, dip Wide-i in an antifog solution prior to the dive and you will be
applying the solution every time you wipe!
